Mosquitoes are breeding somewhere on or near your property, almost always in standing water. The usual culprits are clogged gutters, over-watered plant saucers, neglected birdbaths, pet bowls, and clogged drains. Invasive Aedes mosquitoes can breed in something as small as a bottle cap, so even minor pooling matters. They are most active around dawn, dusk, and shaded daytime hours, resting on the underside of foliage during the heat of the day.

They are more than a nuisance. Local mosquitoes, including the invasive Aedes aegypti, can transmit diseases such as West Nile virus and Zika.
